Project description

The innovative plant which will be built in the industrial area of Porto Marghera (VE) aims to recycle end-of-life photovoltaic (PV) panels to recover 87% of the high purity materials, which can be used as secondary raw materials, including silicon ( critical raw material). The plant will include 3 main parts:

  • automatic machinery for panel type recognition, disassembly of the aluminum frame and junction boxes;
  • furnace and mechanical separation system with recovery of copper strips, glass and photovoltaic cells.
  • photovoltaic cell treatment system with ultrasonic system for silver recovery.

The plant will be able to treat 4,750 t/year of material and recover approximately 700 t of aluminium, 3,000 t of glass, 33 t of copper strips and 120 t of silicon and 1.4 t of silver.

The system is characterized by being highly automated and energy efficient and based on 9-Tech technology with several European patents behind it. In the future, the activities will allow us to improve the recycling of panels in the North-East area (provinces of Venice, Treviso, Padua) which is poorly served by specialized consortia and where there is still a lack of plants dedicated to the recycling of this waste.
